Gambling Affiliate Compliance: The Rules That Protect Your Account
The advertising and content rules that keep a betting partner account alive: age targeting, truthful bonus claims, restricted markets and the mistakes that end partnerships.
Why this matters more than conversion
A partner account is easy to lose and slow to rebuild. Most suspensions trace back to a small number of avoidable mistakes — an unsubstantiated bonus claim, traffic from a restricted country, or promotional content shown to underage audiences. None of them are worth the commission they earned.
The rules that come up most often
1. Only market to adults
Every gambling promotion must be aimed at audiences aged 18+ (or older where local law sets a higher age), and must carry a clear age restriction. That means no youth-oriented communities, no targeting settings that quietly include minors, and no creative that looks like an entertainment or gaming app for teenagers.
2. Keep claims truthful and current
Bonus amounts, wagering requirements and odds change. If you state them, they must match the operator's current terms, and you must say that terms apply. "Up to" is an honest qualifier; "guaranteed" usually is not.
3. Respect restricted markets
Programmes exclude countries — sometimes because of licensing, sometimes because of local law. Sending traffic from an excluded market typically voids the commission and can end your agreement. Ask which markets are excluded before you buy a single click, and re-check periodically.
4. Never promise outcomes
No "guaranteed profit", no "risk-free", no "sure bet" framing. Beyond the legal exposure, this framing attracts the visitors least likely to become long-term players.
5. Disclose that you are an affiliate
Tell readers you earn commission from links. It is required in many jurisdictions, it is ethically correct, and it rarely costs conversions — readers who feel misled leave anyway, just later.
6. Follow each platform's own rules
Social networks, forums, video platforms and ad networks each have gambling-specific policies that are stricter than their general terms and change without notice. A campaign that is legally fine can still violate the platform you posted it on.
7. Include responsible gambling information
Link to responsible-gambling resources and keep the tone free of pressure. Copy that pushes someone to chase losses is both a compliance problem and a sign your traffic will not retain.
Practical checklist before you publish
- Age restriction visible, and targeting set to adults only.
- Every bonus figure matches the current terms, with "terms apply" stated.
- Target market checked against the programme's excluded list.
- Affiliate disclosure present and easy to find.
- Responsible-gambling link included.
- No guaranteed-outcome language anywhere on the page.
If something goes wrong
Tell your affiliate manager immediately, take the content down, and fix the cause rather than the symptom. Programmes forgive a fast, honest correction far more often than they forgive silence — but a repeated pattern of violations ends the relationship, and in some markets it is not just the partnership at risk.
